BERRY CREEK BASH MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE
TUE & WED, JULY 7 & 8 | EDWARDS
 
The Berry Creek Bash is the third race in the East West Hospitality Mountain Bike Race Series presented by Bloch & Chapleau Attorneys at Law and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Bike up Berry Creek and be rewarded with amazing views of Beaver Creek, Edwards and beyond!
 
All riders are welcome and racers do not need to be registered in the full series to participate in this race. The official shop of the Berry Creek Bash is The Kind Bikes & Skis, who will be at the race to provide neutral support for racers with last-minute mechanical issues.
 
 
RACE DETAILS
 
2020 mountain bike races will take place over two days and with wave starts due to gathering size limits while Eagle County is in the Black Diamond Phase of the transition trail map.
 
Social distancing guidelines of six feet between individuals will be strictly enforced for racers and spectators.
 
COURSE DESCRIPTION
 
Racers will begin at the Berry Creek trailhead and race along a combination of dirt road and single track with distances ranging from two miles for younger riders to 10.8 miles for adult riders.
 
The course will be marked for pre-riding by early afternoon on Monday, July 6.

REGISTRATION/BIB PICKUP
 
Due to social distancing requirements, there is no day-of registration for 2020 mountain bike races.
 
On-site bib pickup begins at 3:45 p.m. and races start at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday and 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
 
Costs: Individual races for adults are $26 preregistered or $175 for the series. Individual races for youth are $12 preregistered and the series cost for youth is $70. Registration is available online at vailrec.com/register and preregistration for individual races ends at 5 p.m. one day prior to each race day. 
 
 
WEATHER
 
According to wunderground.com, the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday in Edwards predicts a temperature of around 83º at the start of the races on Tuesday and around 84º at the start of the races on Wednesday. Please dress appropriately for the conditions and be sure to drink plenty of water!
 
The course and start times may vary based on weather.
 
SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIRED
 
All race participants and spectators will be expected to follow social distancing guidelines and COVID-19 protocols; please review our Race Protocols and Mountain Bike FAQ's before the races. It is important to follow these protocols to ensure that we can continue to put on races and events!
 
Please remember to bring and wear your face masks at the race start and finish, and do not participate if you are feeling ill or have been exposed to someone with illness.
 
 
PARTY, PRIZES & SWAG
 
AFTER-PARTY & PRIZES
 
At this time, races will not include an official after-party or award ceremony. However, you can visit e|town in the Edwards Riverwalk for dine-in (space available) or carryout and get a free beer from New Belgium Brewing Company after the race!
 
Raffle winners will be drawn during the race and winners can pick up prizes upon completion of the race, before exiting the venue. Race results will be posted online and prizes for the top three finishers in each category will be mailed. Questions about results or protests should be sent to bpappas@vailrec.com within 24 hours of the race.
 
GROUP RIDES
 
If you’re looking for some fun folks to ride with between races, check out the Vail Valley Mountain Bike Club on Facebook for details on weekly rides! The club meets every Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the martini glass sculpture at Solaris in Vail. Group rides with Vail Valley MTB Club are sponsored by Howard Head Sports Medicine. If something isn’t feeling quite right, come and see us and we’ll make sure you are properly fit to get the most out of your biking.
 
Remember to bring your buff or mask for the pre-ride instruction and we’ll make sure to give each other space on the trail between riders. All levels welcome! We hope to see you out on the trails!

MEET YOUR MEDICAL SUPPORT CREW!
 
The Steadman Clinic/Steadman Philippon Research Institute provides sports medicine coverage for the VRD mountain bike and trail running series. Athletic trainers are at each race and provide injury prevention, first aid, injury evaluation and referrals in case you get hurt. They are located at the start/finish line in The Steadman Clinic tent. Please feel free to use these services. Your athletic trainers for this week's race are:
 
 
Meg Montjoy MS, ATC
 
Meg is originally from Vista, California. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology from California State University, San Marcos in 2015.
 
Meg went on to obtain her Master of Science degree in athletic training at Seton Hall University in 2017.
 
During her time at Seton Hall, she had her clinical rotations with the NY Red Bulls Academy, Union High School and Princeton University.
 
She took a position at Columbia Orthopedics as a physician extender and research assistant in 2017 and also was a guest lecturer for Seton Hall University for the fall of 2018 Orthopedic Clinical Medicine & Imaging course.
 
In her free time, Meg enjoys crossfit, yoga, mountain biking and hiking.
 
She looks forward to working and learning under the exceptional physicians at The Steadman Clinic and improving her skiing and snowboarding skills.
 
 
Erin Boggs MAT, ATC
 
Erin was born and raised in Syracuse, New York. She attended the University of Montana, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in health and human performance and her Master of Science degree in athletic training. She spent much of her time working with the University of Montana football team - Go Griz!
 
During graduate school, Erin served as the North West Athletic Training Association's Student Senate President and completed her graduate research working on a project with the United States Forest Service, analyzing injury data reporting practices in wildland firefighting. Erin spent a year contracted at a local high school in Pocatello, Idaho where she was able to serve the student athletes and the community around her.
 
During her free time, Erin can be found skiing or snowboarding, doing yoga, hiking with her dog Dakota or running. She is looking forward to the year ahead learning from esteemed medical professionals and enjoying mountain life!
 
 
ABOUT THE VAIL RECREATION DISTRICT
