(Vail, Colo.) - The Vail Recreation District's youth futsal (indoor soccer) registration is open for kids who don't want to stop playing soccer just because it's too cold outside! Futsal leagues, lead by head coach Joel Rabinowitz, are open to boys and girls in first through fifth grade.

Futsal is a Brazilian indoor soccer game that is used as a teaching tool. It develops players' technical and tactical abilities by helping them to maneuver and make decisions in a confined space. Futsal is great for getting kids to like soccer because it's all about active participation, presenting many opportunities to score goals and eliminating complicated rules that may hinder younger players.

The cost of youth futsal is $75 for the whole session (coaches' kids play free!) and includes a T-shirt. Scholarships are available; visit vailrec.com for details.

Sessions take place at the Homestake Peak School auxiliary gymnasium in EagleVail. Each session will focus 50 percent on skill building, with the second half focused on putting those skills to use in a game setting. The maximum enrollment is 20 children per session.

This program will follow Eagle County Public Health sports protocols. All participants will need to wear a face covering, and due to space limitations there will be no spectating.
