SHORT TRACK RACE #3 ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 8 AT THE MILLER RANCH OPEN SPACE IN EDWARDS
(Vail, Colo.) - The Spring MTB Short Track Series is heading to Edwards for the last race! The third and final event of the short track races takes place in Edwards on Wednesday, May 8. This event will offer participants up to 20 minutes of racing around a short, fast dirt course on the scenic riverside trails of the Miller Ranch Open Space in Edwards. Parking is available at June Creek Elementary School or Berry Creek Middle School.

An average lap is expected to take approximately two minutes to finish, and adult racers have 20 minutes to complete their laps. The length of time for the youth races is five minutes for ages 5 to 9 and 10 minutes for ages 10 to 14. Racers do not need to have participated in the first two short track races to participate in this final one - all newcomers are welcome!

Race day activities begin at 4 p.m. with day-of registration, which will last until 6:30 p.m. The first race of the event begins at 5:15 p.m. for kids ages 5 to 9, followed by a race at 5:30 p.m. for kids ages 10 to 14. Adult races will begin at 5:45 p.m. with the beginner category and continue with the sport category at 6:15 p.m. The final race, for cyclists in the expert category, will begin at 6:45 p.m.

The cost to preregister for the races is $5 for kids and $15 for adults. Day-of registration rates are $7 for kids and $20 for adults.

An after-party will be held at E|Town in Edwards following the race for all participants and spectators. All racers have the chance to win raffle prizes, and racers 21 and older will receive a free beer from the race series' beverage partner, New Belgium Brewing Company. Unlike the summer's eight-race East West Hospitality Mountain Bike Race Series presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Bloch & Chapleau Attorneys at Law, the Spring MTB Short Track Series will not award prizes or points for individual racers or teams. It's just about having fun and getting in shape!

Race organizers are watching the weather and will notify participants should the race be canceled or moved due to inclement weather or unrideable conditions. Check the VRD's Facebook page at facebook.com/vailrecdistrict for updates closer to each event.

The VRD Mountain Bike Town Series will continue on May 22 with the Minturn Mini Kids Race, kicking off the East West Hospitality Mountain Bike Race Series presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Bloch & Chapleau Attorneys at Law. The first race in the series for both adults and kids is on May 29 with the Eagle Ranch Classic.
